From there, we’ll continue to the Colossi of Memnon, two towering stone statues that once guarded the entrance to the mortuary temple of Pharaoh Amenhotep III.
These silent sentinels stand on the West Bank of the Nile, not far from the necropolises of ancient Thebes. We’ll enjoy lunch at a quality local restaurant before crossing to the East Bank to explore the vast Karnak Temple Complex that is the spiritual heart of ancient Egypt, dedicated primarily to the god Amun.
With its massive columns, sacred lake, and centuries of additions, Karnak stands as a powerful symbol of Egyptian religious life.
