Transfer for a tour of the High Dam of Aswan, built in 1960, one of the most significant engineering achievements of modern Egypt. Its main purpose was to control the annual flooding of the Nile, which, while bringing vital nutrients, often caused severe damage to farmlands and settlements. The dam allowed Egypt to regulate the Nile’s flow, ensuring a consistent water supply for agriculture and domestic use, as well as generating hydroelectric power. It also created Lake Nasser, one of the world’s largest reservoirs, vital for Egypt’s economic and social development.

Continue to visit the Temple of Philae, dedicated to the goddess Isis, one of the most beautiful temples of Ancient Egypt. Originally located on Philae Island, the temple was relocated to Agilkia Island after the construction of the High Dam to protect it from the rising waters of Lake Nasser. The temple remains a stunning example of Egyptian architecture surrounded by serene waters.

This dual dedication is reflected throughout the temple’s architecture, which features twin entrances, halls, and sanctuaries. Its location along the Nile makes it a captivating site both historically and scenically. Sail to Edfu. Lunch on board.

Take a horse-drawn carriage ride to visit the Temple of Horus in Edfu, dedicated to the falcon god Horus. It is one of the best-preserved temples in all of Egypt. Built during the Ptolemaic period between 237 and 57 BC, its walls are adorned with stunning inscriptions and reliefs depicting the mythical battle between Horus and Set, his uncle. Sail to Luxor. Dinner and overnight on board.

  • Day 5

Day 5: Valley of the Kings – Hatshepsut Temple – Colossi of Memnon – Karnak Complex – Luxor Temple

Breakfast on board. Begin your day with a fascinating visit to the Valley of the Kings, the main burial site of the pharaohs of the New Kingdom (1550–1070 BC). Located near ancient Thebes (modern Luxor), the valley contains over 60 tombs, including that of Tutankhamun, discovered almost intact in 1922. The walls of these tombs are decorated with stunning reliefs and paintings that depict the pharaohs’ journey to the afterlife.

Continue to the Temple of Hatshepsut, also known as Deir el-Bahari, one of Egypt’s most remarkable architectural masterpieces. Built for Queen Hatshepsut of the 18th Dynasty, it stands out for its unique design of terraces that blend harmoniously with the surrounding cliffs. The temple honors Hatshepsut’s reign, achievements, and divine status, and remains one of the most elegant monuments of ancient Egyptian architecture.

Visit the Colossi of Memnon, two massive stone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III standing about 18 meters tall. They once guarded the entrance of his mortuary temple. Over time, these statues became famous in antiquity for the mysterious sound one of them emitted at dawn—a phenomenon later associated with the Greek hero Memnon, hence their name.

Explore the Karnak Temple Complex, one of the largest and most significant religious centers of ancient Egypt, primarily dedicated to Amun, along with Mut and Khonsu, forming the Theban triad. This vast site reflects centuries of expansion and devotion by successive pharaohs.

Finally, visit the Luxor Temple, built during the New Kingdom and dedicated to the same divine triad. It was the site of the annual Opet Festival, celebrating the rejuvenation of the pharaoh’s divine power. The temple was connected to Karnak by an avenue of sphinxes, part of which has been restored, recreating the ancient processional route.
